Organizers: Frederick Chopin Society in Moscow (Russia) with support of Moscow City Government.

Organizing Committee Chairpersons:

Artistic Director – Mikhail Aleksandrov (Russia), Chairman – Mikhail Voskresensky (Russia).

The required repertoire of the competition consists of music by F. Chopin exclusively. The competition is held in two age categories:

Juniors (born not before 18.09.1999)

Seniors (born between 18.09.1999 и 18.09.1994)

The competition consists of three rounds and finals with symphony orchestra. Application forms, completed in Russian or English with accompanying documents must be sent to the Organizing Committee not later than July 08, 2016.

The list of document as follows:

a) application form itself

b) birth certificate (copy);

c) brief curriculum vitae;

d) recommendation letter given by a music institution or by two well-known musicians;

e) two colour photos;

f) video recording (DVD-Video is preferred) of three works by F. Chopin by participants choice:

Junior category – 1) etude, 2) nocturne,3) one piece from the second round program – ballade, scherzo or other from the program list.

Senior category – 1) etude, 2) two contrasting preludes,3) first movement and scherzo from sonata.

Video-recording must be made just with one camera,the hands of the pianist should be seen for the whole duration of the recording. All pieces must be recorded without interruptions. The recording must be made without installations;

g) for the participants who need a visa to enter Russia: a photocopy of the first page of the passport (photo, name, number, validity) of the competitor and of the accompanying person/s each.

The application set sending date is determined by the postal stamp. All documents must be printed, and the photos must be signed in Russian or English. It’s also possible to send the documents and the recording to the E-mail address of the competition – This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The special selection committee will choose 24 musicians in each category. The invitations for successful participants will be sent by July  25, 2015. The entry fee - $ US 100 must be paid upon arrival in Moscow. It is requested not to send money in cash or checks by mail. The Organizing Committee will provide the contestants and accompanying persons from countries where a visa is required to enter Russia with the official invitation. The fee for the invitations must be paid upon arrival in Moscow at registration. Travel expenses to Russia and accommodation in Moscow of the contestants and accompanying person(s) for the time of the competition first round should be covered by participants or the organizations supporting them. Participants must inform the Organizing Committee about the place, date and time of their arrival for competition, so the Committee could make arrangements for meeting. The Organizing Committee is covering accommodation costs hotel) for each contestant passing to the second round and one accompanying person starting on the next day after the results of the first round are announced and to the end of his performances at the competition. The Organizing Committee is covering the tickets flight or railway) to and from Russia to all finals participants (except of persons residing or studying in Russia). Each of participants will be provided a piano room (at least 3 hours daily), and rehearsals on the stage before the performance as well.
The competitors who did not pass for the 2nd or 3rd rounds could stay in Russia on their own expenses. The Organizing Committee will help (by request) as well to provide invitation for additional accompanying persons and their accommodation in Russia by discounted prices in hotels. The participants arrived for competition but for some reasons not taking part in it will carry all expenses on Russia staying by themselves. The contestants’ order of performance will be determined by drawing of lots. Drawing lots and registration will take place on September 8, 2016 from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. All stages of the Competition are open to the public.

JURY

The Jury will consist of internationally distinguished musicians from different countries. The Jury will be guided in its work by rules elaborated by the Organizing Committee. The competition consists of 3 rounds and finals. Not more than 24 contestants will be admitted to the 1st Round in each category. Not more than 12 contestants will be admitted to the 2nd round, not more than 6 – for the 3rd Round, not more than 3 contestants – for the finals.

The Jury has the right to interrupt the performance of contestants, who seem to be incompetent.

The Jury has the authority: 1. Not to grant one or more awards 2. To grant prizes by ex aequo 3. To award special prizes The Jury’s decisions are final and beyond appeal.

PRIZES

Junior Category

1st Prize — $US 5.000, the title of Laureate

2nd Prize —$US 2.500, the title of Laureate

3rd Prize — $US 1.500, the title of Laureate

Three Prizes $US 500 each and Honorary Diplomas will be awarded to the contestants of Round III not admitted to the final round.

Senior Category

1st Prize — $US 10.000, the title of Laureate

2nd Prize —$US 4.000, the title of Laureate

3rd Prize —$US 2.000, the title of Laureate

Three Prizes $US 1.000 each and Honorary Diplomas will be awarded to the contestants of Round III not admitted to the final round.

Within two years all laureates must perform in concert tours on conditions declared by the Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee is keeping the rights for translation of all competition phases and final concert on radio and TV, recording, audio and video production as well as distribution without any reward to performers.
